How to Prepare Your Home Before a Treatment

Good preparation makes a real difference to how well a treatment works. It helps the technician reach the areas that matter and keeps your things protected.

Here is a simple checklist to go through the day before.

The day before

  • Clear clutter from floors, especially along walls and in corners.
  • Move small items away from the areas being treated.
  • Store food, plates and cutlery in closed cabinets or the fridge.
  • Let the technician know about any pets, fish tanks or allergies.

Room by room

Kitchen

Empty the area under the sink and clear the counters. Cover appliances such as the toaster and rice cooker.

Bedrooms

For bed bug treatments, wash bedding on a hot cycle and keep it bagged until the treatment is done.

Ask your technician when it is safe to return and how long to wait before cleaning treated areas.

On the day

  1. Keep children and pets away from the treated areas.
  2. Open windows if you are advised to.
  3. Follow the re-entry time you are given.

Quick tipTake photos of any problem spots before the visit. It helps you show the technician exactly where you have seen pests.

After the treatment

You may see a few pests for a short time afterwards as they come out of hiding. This is normal. If activity continues, let your pest control provider know.
